    I-WAR (Independence War)
Thought I should share this with all of you. It seems no one else is talking about this game, so I will give it a whirl. I played this game back in the 90's. And I find this game one of the best space sims ever. The first installment of the series teaches you all about flying a spaceship. The second game is more "open world" like a pirate kind of game where you own a base and bring goods in with different kind of ships. I found both games really awesome with a good story.

    March 2017 Subscriber's Town Hall w/ Turbulent
    Highlights
Today's Town Hall featured two members from Turbulent: Strategist, Benjamin Farel (Who is French) and CTO, Benoit Beausejour (Who is Canadian).Spectrum was talked about quite a bit today, as Turbulent made Spectrum.V0.33 will feature nesting style threads AKA Reddit style threads so that there's two options for threads to be made in. V.035 may be the first iteration of custom Emoji's if things go well.VOIP will use the Opus codec and will first come in Spectrum. They will allow players to make their own lobbies and switch between them, later on they'll have the in game integration where people in your lobby will be heard in game based off where they are at.Delta patching is currently in internal testing and builds are being made with the new system. Once the kinks have been ironed out they'll deploy it to all the developers and from there, the Evocati. No timeline yet, but Benoit said it was a goal that felt distant before, but now is closer if that gives any indication. For Orgs they're working towards including more features for them in Spectrum such as roles, public forums, and more in the coming months. The Mobile App is something that is on the backburner as the resources for it are currently dedicated towards getting VOIP running and other tasks. They want the mobile app, but VOIP is a priority right now.Courtesy of Relay

Oh damn, I didn't bother reading the mail so I just thought it was subs and first wave or something. Didn't realize I was part of the first wave xD
Hmmmm, do I have to get TrackIR now? Because the way some of the cockpits are set up it could be really useful having some of that.. STOP MAKING ME SPEND MONEY STAR CITIZEN! T.T

    Happy Hour Gamedev: Javelin Basketball
    Highlights
Today's Happy Hour featured Technical Designer, Calix Reneau in a live demonstration of creating a gameplay mechanic, specifically shooting a basketball in the new Javelin basketball court. Calix used an editor called "Flowgraph" which allows him to visually code in as you can guess a flowgraph format. After going through two iterations to get the throw correct, the hardest part was actually making the ball bounce. CryEngine has support for bouncy materials, but there's more involved than that to make a basketball bounce as you would expect. After a half hour of tweaking Calix was able to create something like a basketball and added a scoreboard for final touches. This mechanic isn't something guaranteed to make it into the game and was more of an insight on what it takes to create a mechanic in general.Courtesy of Relay

  16. Roy added a post in a topic Server question.

That is exactly what I'm saying ... and only area within 20km radius or so ... is a subject of an instancing .. and even in this area ... in case there are 1000+ ships ... no need to show all  of them to each client
  17. Drakin added a post in a topic Server question.

    I started that discussion there
I'm not sure the long range scanners will have anything to do with instancing at all. If I were designing it, I wouldn't tie it to instancing, anyway.
Instances are for handling real-time interactions, but it can be argued that a long range scan doesn't have to really be real-time at all. It can just pick up objects / events in a certain range within the last few minutes. Thus, you could base the long range scanner on the data in a server that just tracks "last reported position" of objects / events (ie: item tracker).
Short range radar / scanning needs to be far more responsive, so I do agree that needs to be handled at the instance level.
That's my understanding so far as well. The question then arises as to how they'll handle the additional lag that the people who are placed in a non-local instance will be experiencing. Not only will they be at a latency disadvantage, but since it will all be handled transparently they won't even *know* they're at a disadvantage, other than discovering that they're not landing hits the way they'd normally expect.

This has helped me a lot. It's still hard to grasp how it all works but I'm closer ha-ha.  Many thanks guys!
  20. Roy added a post in a topic Server question.

Technically I believe that radar / scaner window could be based on the whole instance .. and only when someone start trying to shoot another mark or hail another mark etc. both of them shall appear within same instance
  21. Treello added a post in a topic Server question.

I believe their goal is that if you are solo you will always be placed in a instance that is best suited to you. (lowest latency and pkt loss) however if you are in a group you will be placed in the best possible (cluster/servers/ec2's whatever they do) for all players in that group. They will try to bring the latency as close as possible to to your group members. Then the other players you see in that area will be in the same boat its the best server for them. A real issue arises is when you are chasing someone and you have to instance transfer. You can designate someone as a focus (this has been confirmed) so they can't instance transfer away from you and you can chase them into their new instance, but in that case a problem arises is likely the new transfer will be based on the person your chasing not on your connection.
  22. Roy added a post in a topic Server question.

Drakin - my PoV on the topic stays the same for an year or so .. the most logical (heh again) way to have good experience for everybody would be to create multiple instances of the same "popular" place that are geo based ... and ensure that there is certain visibility between events happening in each of those "sub-places"

Nothing huge, but great to see some steady progress.
They keep teasing all the systems functionality that will eventually be in place... droool... I should try to not get so excited as the reality will then never be able to match my imagination. But it does look like it'll be pretty cool once it all comes together.
Nice to see the female characters coming along. Totally looking forward to flying my space ship in high heels.  (just kidding) (not that there'd be anything wrong with that) "I'm a lumberjack an I'm okay..."
