Black out on Rikkord Memorial

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Due to not really being interrested in dog fighting in SC and there for not owning a proper combat ship i have been racing alot lately to prepare for the REC comming into play. I'm racing a Gamma and got Old Vanderwal down to about 1:10 which is decent. So i started doing Rikkord Memorial, but right now im struggeling with passing out at the shot to checkpoint 12 after getting major tunnel vision between 10 and 11 and was wondering if any of you out there had any advice on this? Slowing down is not an option, as i would never stand a chance against an M50 if i started to do this :D

Racing isen't my main thing in SC so i don't have to be perfect, but i plan on hauling cargo for profit, then pick up my racer when hitting a civilized system and bet heavily on myself :D Get rich or die trying right...

PS. If any one feels like racing a bit, let me know so we can set it up.

1:10 in the OV is good for a Gamma, i think my record is ~1:08:7 (My best time from my videos is a 1:09:3)

As for Rikkard I haven't done an update video since the changes and the Rikkord Memorial was my first Aeronautics Academy so it's pretty rough... With that said here's how to tackle Checkpoint 10-12.  While this video was 0.9(maybe .8) so with the updates since you just want to aim a little bit on the farside of ring and turn sharp before the ring itself.  This to allow you slide through.

Here's the link to check point 10.

I miss the marks here so it's not the best example but the Marks are still true for the current version of ArCom, I believe.  The biggest point here is to use the lateral turn and make quick snap turns, not maintained long turns.

Here is a demo of how to attack corners in the newest release of Arena Commander Notice how I have a collision course set right at the ring then I turn sharp and slide through the ring without loosing a lot of speed... (Lap time with the 350R is 1:02:62 on the OV)

Check out all my Aeronautics Academy Videos here. I apologize for the poor sound/volume on most of the old videos, i just figured out what was wrong between my PC and YouTube

I'm usually on ts in the North American evening Times.  I'm going to hook my HOTAS back up and start racing again too.  So I'll get the rust off and start tackling these tracks again.

Let me know if you have any questions

So I just recorded this...  I tackle Checkpoints 10-12 first then coast to the line and do a hot lap in my M50. 1:48:99 So ~3 seconds faster than the old video...

Sorry i left my internet radio on...  (Video may take 10 minutes to finish uploading)

Thanks guys, I was wacthing the AA videos as i was writing the question. But due to them being from 0.9 i thought i might aswell bring it up here. Actual thanks alot for the new video, it really helps when having to map out the racing course, and you pull some amazing stunts. I'm wondering if my gamma will even fit in some the places ur run the M50, but i will test that a few weeks (going away for work until after easter

Just a quick follow up question, how much do you run your boost? i know the M50 has a great turn radius, but what you are doing is.... Sigh im not sure my gamma will stay in one piece, if i try that.

I'm in central europe so we might have to do a bit of planing to get a race set up, but im sure we can figure it out. And even if we don't we should get the racing part of this site going a bit faster :D

We can run something this weekend, racing related if you want.  I'll be on for the org meeting, hope you can join for that and the gaming afterwards.

As for boost control, I have an entire episode dedicated to the new boost mechanics, which basically boils down to "make quick snap turns and hit the boost the moment you start the maneuver, even a half second early when learning and stay on it until you are back to full speed and have completed the turn"

As for the line i took with the M50 between check point 3 and 4 no i don't think you can fit through there with a Gamma, but give it a try. Check out this video on "Finding the Fastest line".  Might Help.

If you have any idea for new Videos or questions you think I should spotlight, let me know!

Here's the video for the current boost mechanics (And defford link)
