Appropriate Force or Dubious Actions

Recommended Posts

I wondered if it would be beneficial to open a post where we could record situations in Star Citizen during Alpha and Beta (where it doesn't matter as much), where we believe our actions were boarder line but justified. By discussing these situations now we help define our role as a org and build a case by case history for defending those actions. It could help members understand where we stand. Maybe it would be fun for HR to give a judgement on the situation. These should be instances where a similar thing could happen in the final game. Not sure if this should go under HR or role play or what but feel free to move, change or edit.

Note: I wouldn't include instances where we act out a pirate role during PTU. Sometimes when your testing the game in PTU you need a change of pace. And trying out a pirate role helps change from the monotonous missions. Also if HR did want to trial the idea nobody should take offence to their decisions. It's just a test bed and a fun play through.

So here's an example that happened to me:

Turning on comm arrays has a 1000 credit reward, not much but enough to keep topping up your account. But one of the biggest issues is that it's a winner takes all scenario. I jump into the instance to find an empty space. I fly towards the array and two pirates jump in and immediately take hostile action. I kill one pirate and while fighting the second pirate, another pilot jumps into the instance. (Pilot A) This creates two more pirates. As I'm closer to the action these two pirates start to attack me.  But I notice that pilot A makes straight for the array, now in honesty I've done this a few times myself but I've excepted the consequences if it turns sour. I kill my second pirate and turn to pilot A. He's just slowing down to a stop beside the array. Knowing full well I can't take action after the array is up, as I'd be classed as a pirate. I decide to pepper his wing with a few shots hoping he'd think it was the pirates and turn to fight them. If he did then it was a warning shot from me. Please note during combat any communication was impossible.

Unfortunately, he wasn't a good sport about it and turned to attack me. Between him and the pirates, I was forced to kill him first, then the two pirates. I think my actions where justified but would love to hear HR opinion.

For arguments sake let's say that the pilot org complained to our org about my actions. They are requesting compensation for loss of earnings and damages. :)

So firstly, is it a worthwhile idea for HR to have this test post? Secondly, what would be the decision and action if required? IE surely not every case has to be a ban, perhaps we should have fines also for small offences.

I personally feel that during alpha we should be allowed to test anything. How else will we be able to replicate/test/prove bugs that require you to be wanted or require you to PvP, etc?

I'm happy either way and your right that it gives more range of testing. Plus not everyone has PTU.

But you normally decide before you jump in if your going the pirate route or not. I'm just suggesting recording those middle of the line instances to help get feedback from HR. It may help develop the process down the line once the game goes live.

Determining one or the other, for TA members: if you don't want an Advocacy Agent seeing you do it, don't do it.

Do note that counter-pirating is not pirating, but may involve some of the same actions.

"For arguments sake let's say that the pilot org complained to our org about my actions. They are requesting compensation for loss of earnings and damages."

On this one: anyone trying this is a con-man and will be treated as such.

Don't rush it, when you get "the advocacy license" you will hunt them pirates without any worry of con levels if you kill them encase of resistance.

This sounds like the Templars trying to kill the assassins in assassins creed!

To be honest, Alpha/Beta/PU/Whatever :

If someone shoot me (apart for special circonstance like ending a Quantum Jump to pop in some dogfight fuckery and taking a salvo, or warning shot, or missclick (happen more than you think)) more than 3 seconds or lock a missile on my tail, he/she will face a hostile answer, that being said, might put s**t in context, depending on the zone and scenario, if we are in an escort mission in a type 3 zone moving important/high value assets, depending on the org i might even ask the flight leader if it's possible to immediatly engage whoever break the kilometers range.

Back on track, Alpha is Alpha, as long as you don't troll, go ahead, like DJ said, mess things upp, try to break the game, need more feedback/report imo, but i don't have this kind of clearance, don't quote me on that ^^
