Aegis-Eclipse-L4-Piece-5-Atmospheric-Fli

The Aegis Eclipse is a bomber designed to get in and strike before it's ever even spotted. After extensive service with the UEE, this high-tech military equipment is making its debut on the civilian market for 2947.

A fleet of these on a Idris or Javelin is going to bring a world of hurt as a first wave attack..

I cant get over how small the ship is 21 meters

Neither can I.

I took out a measuring stick to estimate how wide it is. These are just rough estimates from measuring the Holo Viewer model, but what I get is 29m width for the width when the wings are folded, and 36m for the width when the wings are extended.

So the dimensions overall are:

Length: 21m

Width (folded): 25.6m

Width (extended): 38.7m

To see how this compares to the Sabre:

Length: 26m

Width (folded): 24m

Width (extended): 30m

I'll be curious to see if the Eclipse can fit in most places a Sabre can, as the Eclipse is five meters shorter but over a meter wider.

* I originally estimated the folded width at 28m, but after reviewing the images of the Eclipse it appears the wing tilts out a bit even after being folded.

Not sure where BoredGamer got the stats but:

Length: 21m
Height: 4m
Length: 25m (Assuming that's folded)

Yea, it is pretty difficult to make estimates based on Holo Viewer measurements, but I just did it a second time and I still get 29m for the folded width. However, this time I got 39m for the extended width instead of 36m (go figure...).

My actual measurements this time were 4 inches length, 5 1/2 inches folded width, 7 3/8 inches extended. I rotated the image so that all measurements were in the same horizontal dimension, since screen pixels are not necessarily square.

As unreliable as this guestimate is, I'm sticking with it until I see a source for Bored's estimate. Go measure it yourself with the Holo Viewer and let me know what you come up with :-)

EDIT: Yes, it turns out I was not measuring from the correct part of the wing that folds. Bored is correct, it is about 25m wide with wings folded.

Seems 25m is correct, this is straight from this months Jump Point regarding the Eclipse:

APPROXIMATE STATISTICS Length ~22 Meters The ship has been discussed to be approximately the size of a Gladiator. For maximum compatibility it should be able to fit inside an Idris, so should be 25m wide max

So who's planning to buy one...? And why?

It is a beautiful ship, but I'm having trouble selling it to myself. I can't imagine any way of making money with it solo, and it can't do missions without support, so it is purely a ship for organized military missions. It looks like a great ship for an org to purchase, if orgs actually purchased ships (is there any org that actually collects money and purchases ships as a group??). I imagine it may be high on the list of ships for an org to purchase IN GAME once things really get going.

If I were to do so, I think I'd literally being buying it just because it looks so cool and for no other reason.

I bought one yesterday with the Concierge early access before any of the stats were released.

Basically got it for Org operations and possibly [org] base defense. Even if it isn't a money maker, it is drop dead gorgeous. The flying wing/aerowing design is my favorite aircraft design.

With 3x S9 torpedoes, it should be able to destroy Connies, Caterpillars, Starfarers and the like. A fleet of these inside a Idris is going to absolutely wreck havoc.

*Edit*  Also, all the lore is telling of a Operation where the UEE used the Eclipse to target a insurgent group on a planet, making it sound like the Eclipse will have some Air-to-Ground capabilities.

Yes Xplor collects money to buy ships.

I also have a Eclipse I got in the Concierge sale.

Was watching batgirl and Ben and it has some what long range. It do not need a carrier. Not as good as the vanguard but still good range.

Yep, I went back and reviewed the images again and it looks like I was measuring from the wrong point of the wing, which is to say that I thought the wing folded at one location, but it actually folded at another location.

My revised width calculations are folded 25.6m and extended 38.7m.

I'll go back and edit the previous posts if it lets me.

Can't wait to see all the Eclipse owners in the verse...

"Yeah it's cool, I like to ride around and do...stuff...it's black."

"What stuff do you do? Is there that much demand for a stealth ship with S9 torps?"

"Oh you know, stuff...check out the wings on there, they're black."

"Aren't those torps insanely expensive to use?"

"Totally man, that's why they're cool. Wanna see em? Factory originals!"

"You don't do anything but sit here on the pad showing it off do you?"

"That's uh...1000 credits for talking with me. Next! Who wants to sit in the cockpit? 5000 credits and you can!!"

Just thought i'd share this also i'm doubling down on my original statement that this ship is insanely overpriced.

So true, Dan. Yet I'm still considering buying one just because it looks so cool. Yea, I know, really stupid reason. Trying to resist. Not sure if my willpower will hold out.

Also, though I take this with a grain of salt, I have heard various people claim that there will definitely be bombing run missions in the game since they were a big part of some of CR's previous games. So maybe there will actually be a way to make money with these things on military missions..?? Maybe? I sound like I'm desperate to convince myself, eh?

I will say this: the existence of this ship in the game means a lot less people are going to risk flying their big ships around without crew or escort because they won't even get any warning that they should jump away from impending danger. As soon as the danger becomes evident, it very well may be too late to do anything about it if they're flying their big ship around alone.

As long as there will be no invisible / undetectable "warp disruptors" warship would have enough time to accelerate and go into warp before those torpedoes will land (also don't forget about point defense systems etc. ) ...  the ships that are affected really bad a medium sized traders / miners  :(

Point Defense systems seem to be quite rare though, besides being on capital ships, the only other one that springs to mind is the 890 Jump.

I'm still not sure 3 torpedoes is enough to bring down medium sized ships.. I would guess it'll disable it, but not sure, may depend on the ship you're going after.

I do agree that this ship is going to make all medium size ship pilots butthole's pucker a little bit seeing one around their local port.

Yep, with a competent crew I would imagine that some torpedoes might be taken out by point defense systems or the like, damage from impacting torpedoes can be minimise by appropriate distribution of power to the correct shields, and repairs can quickly be made so as to make an escape, launch a counter attack, or wait for reinforcements.

But someone who makes the mistake of taking a medium sized ship out on a joy ride without a competent crew could quickly learn the error of their ways when a spread of incoming torpedoes is detected.

A lot of it depends on how fast you'll be able to react and how fast your ship picks up the launched torpedoes. Right now you don't get a direction from which the inbound missiles are coming, so you could in theory just slam all power to shields, again depends on the ship and how much time you get to react.

But someone who makes the mistake of taking a medium sized ship out on a joy ride without a competent crew could quickly learn the error of their ways when a spread of incoming torpedoes is detected.

I have a feeling this is going to be quite common, especially for Cargo Haulers. Even if people get AI, I still don't think that'll be enough to offset a well planned Eclipse bomb run.

Given how low these sold (Warbond sales are in the 3700-3800 serial range), I think people are going to risk it, as of now, it's really the only ship of it's class.

So, final day to pick up the Aegis Eclipse on concept sale...

It is a bit of a struggle for me since I really love the way the ships looks, but buying it would break my big rule of not buying expensive small ships that have low earning potential.

In the spirit of this struggle, I wrote the following Haiku:

Black beauty of stealth
Though all others you Eclipse
Sadly I must pass

:-)
