How to install PTU 3.0

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, We are ready for more stress testing on the latest Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 version, so we’d like to open up the PTU to more players. We will be publishing Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 to the PTU in stages for the following three groups — 1st Wave testers, Subscribers, and Concierge Members.

Tonight we are granting access to 1st Wave testers and going from one stage to the next will depend on server stability. You can follow the status of your group below.

To play Alpha 3.0, you must download and install the new PTU Launcher: https://install.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/RSI-Setup-1.0.0-ptu.25.exe. It features the Delta Patcher, which will drastically reduce the size of incremental game updates. You will also need to copy your account to the PTU. Here’s a refresher on how to do that:

1) Log on to the RSI website using your normal credentials.

2) Copy your account to the PTU by visiting the Settings section of your RSI account or going directly here https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/copy/ptu. Following this step, you should receive an email with your PTU-specific password.

3) Download the PTU Launcher.

4) Launch the installer exe and follow the instructions on screen.

5) Log in to the PTU Launcher using your login ID and the PTU-specific password received in the email.

6) Make sure the “Live” channel is selected under the Star Citizen logo and download the latest build.

7) Enjoy Alpha 3.0!

The goal of this initial PTU release is to increase our total player count in an effort test concurrency. We also need you to focus on testing the traversal system by quantum traveling, landing on moons, locating and visiting Levski, and just exploring the great expanse of space around Crusader.

Please note that the complete Alpha 3.0 experience is not in this build, as some features are still being implemented and refined. These features will be added to future builds when ready for wider testing.

PTU 1st Wave: Access to PTU open!
Subscribers: Access to PTU open!
Concierge: Access to PTU open!

Lastly, you are allowed to create content/stream with this patch.

That great news. What the bet they sell thousands of subscriptions today.

Subscribers aren't invited yet though. Although neither should concierge be and I'm in, maybe I'm just awesome and they put my in wave 1 anyway? xD

WTF?!?

CIG had said that Concierge would be in the first wave yet it turns out not all Concierge are.

I had already deleted 2.6.3 completely from my computer to prepare for the 3.0 download before I discovered that I'm not in the first wave. CIG and their bloody miscommunications.

Now it looks like I'll get in as a Subscriber before I get in as Concierge. *so pissed*

UPDATE:

Ok, so I went on the #Concierge chat and found this:

So I guess the rest of Concierge should be in by tomorrow.

From what I hear from people from CIG on twitch is Concierge and Subscribers are getting it tomorrow.

I had some initial difficulties and frustrations. Some who only just subscribed are playing. Copy over to the PTU and try this link to install the Delta Installer.

https://install.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/RSI-Setup-1.0.0-ptu.25.exe

By the way, 2.6.3 seems to be disabled because I couldn't get in.

It does work that way, I am downloading now :-)

I was about to write "What the hell??" since I'm both Concierge *and* a Subscriber yet I'm still not in the PTU yet. But then I just checked my account and I actually do have PTU access now, so I've initiated the download.

Normally my downloads are pretty fast, but it is crawling. I think a huge number of people must be hitting the servers.

I think I was getting max download speed when I downloaded it earlier. I don't know if the launcher still does P2P stuff.

I just took a shower to wake myself up and I'm now realizing I was being an idiot earlier. My gaming PC is currently connected to the internet via an Ethernet-over-power adapter, and it is SLOOOOOOW. I misread the speed earlier, thinking it was faster than it is, but I've now realized it is just slooooooow. Looks like I need to drop an Ethernet cable to my rig to get this download going faster.

UPDATE: I rummaged through my collection o' cr*p and found an old WiFi router. I set it up as a Client Bridge connected to my primary WiFi router and then plugged my gaming PC into it. It still isn't great, but at 20Mbps it is far better than the 4Mbps I was getting with the Ethernet-over-power adapter. I suppose what I really need to do is go buy a 5G WiFi card for my gaming PC. Easier said than done since I'm in Lima Peru.

Looks like I'll have 3.0 in a few hours.
