My simpit

Recommended Posts

During my summer vacation of last year I started working on my simpit. I've yet to complete it but I'm planning on doing that this spring/summer.

What I wanted with this build was to be able to just sit at it and browse the web and the next moment be playing SC without moving and connecting my HOTAS and rudder pedals.

The thing with SC is that it's an FPS and flight game which means if you are playing with a HOTAS for flying and mouse and keyboard for FPS, something's always in the way.

My design of this simpit makes it so I have everything ready for when I want to use it. My HOTAS is always connected and it's not in the way on my mouse and keyboard and vice versa.

As I also play driving games from time to time I also wanted to make it easy to get into driving mode.

After using the simpit for a few months I have things that I need to change that are driving me crazy sometimes but the main design is done.

That looks great. Wish I could build something like that. It just me but I would not like having the mouse under the keyboard. Never tried it but think it might drive me mad.

What are you thinking/want to change?

The mouse under the keyboard is actually very comfy as I have my Logitech G13 keyboard next to the mouse. My hands are usually at the same level to each other.

What I want to change is the height as I right now bump my knees into the underside of where the keyboard and mouse are when I use the racing or rudder pedals. I did not realise this until I actually sat down in it.

I would like to make it more configurable so that I can find the best position for everything and for when others are using it.

That right there with the keyboard and mouse is what I wanted to get around for games like SC. Having a place for everything.

The best thing about the way that you have done it is that there is no problem with leg room while using pedals.

The keyboard is wireless so I can either have it up there, or bring it onto my lap, although the wheel gets in the way of the top rows of keys. Is ok for wandering about with. I also move the joystick to the PC to make getting in and out easy. Yes, plenty of leg room for the pedals, I am not using them for SC yet. Am hoping we will get wheel control options for land vehicles.

Support for steering wheels would be awesome.

Looks epic! You will have to show the finished thing up and running.

Thanks! And I will update the post when I've gotten further.

So, it's finished.

I'm pleased with how it turned out, it does look like furniture and not just some toy that I feel embarrased to show to others.

There are still those parts about it that I want to change but I can set aside an hour or two when I can to modify and adjust those problems.

Hope you like the design and if you do decide to use this design with a few ideas of your own, please upload images here so that I can se what you did differently.

I kinda envy people who have the creativity, resources and dedication to put this kind of thing through. Sadly I consider myself to play too big of a variance in games to pull stuff like this off. looks great though.

I'm one of those people who felt envy as well and that's why I did this. The pit is made with being able to play different kind of games in mind,  that is why it was so important that the mouse and keyboard were positioned in front instead of to the side like people usually do with simpits.

I started this two weeks into my four week summer vacation after building a sofa out on the balcony, this meant that it had to be finished in two weeks before I went back to work. Time is a hell of a motivator so I recommend starting something when you have a short time to finish it.

You inspire me boss, I will now add a retractable ladder to the side!

Fatie89, that looks great. Now you just have to make me one.

Just this morning I started thinking of how I would build a double seated pit, one in front of the other as the F-14 Tomcat is soon to be released in DCS. If you have the space for it I think we can get it done in about two to three weeks. We need to have shared custody though and I can come and go as I want. :-D

It alright have two spare bedrooms both can fit a king size bed. So as long as you make it small than a king size bed we be good.

Two SPARE bedrooms?! If they are next to each other we can tear down the wall and make a full sized Connie bridge. That would be awesome! :-o

So, I've been busy.

cSMM0Fi.jpg

The whole build is inside the "closet" that was built for this purpose.

The state of it right now.

hbcjgYP.jpg

With the keyboard and mouse pulled out for usage. This is how I play SC.

deGhGdL.jpg

The right console with the newly added panel that has the trackpad. The trackpad is for when I'm in need of a mouse but the keyboard and mouse is tucked back inside like when I'm flying. Two switches are missing as I'm out of stock and need to order more but I'm waiting until I've designed the last panel. One of the panels have backlighting, that was a lot of work and I might do the same to the other panels. I have prepared all panels for installation of LED lights.

All the panels are designed with three DCS jet fighters in mind, the AJS 37 Viggen, F/A-18 Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat. Because of the Viggen there is some text in Swedish.

qeVmcNQ.jpg

Front console, strong lights from the Thrustmaster Cougar MFD because of the dark surrounding. Two Saitek/ Logitech Flight Instrument Panel, one in each of the two top MFD:s, these can be used with X-plane. You can also see the Thrustmaster TPR pedals.

TMZzZdI.jpg

Left console with the throttle. I've changed the original slew axis controller to this instead Analog thumbstick skew sensor upgrade and I love it, the control is much better, I use it for strafing with the ship and it makes landings with the ship so much easier as it's an axis. You can see the USB and DP extension cables at the front of the throttle. I noticed that the extension cables were a bit short when I installed them but they do work, the Rift S headset is hanging on the wall right behind my right shoulder.

Behind the monitor I have the Philips Hue Play that sync up with the screen. Underneath the chair I have the Buttkicker Gamer 2 and it can really elevate the immersion.
